COMMONWEALTH of VIRGINIA
DEPARTMENT OF FORESTRY
Thank you for visiting our website, and especially for reviewing
our 10-year strategic
planning initiative. A 10-year plan might seem unrealistic,
but trees grow slowly and to make a difference we must start
early and stay flexible.
As you review the following draft, keep in mind that
it is just the first part of a comprehensive document.
Our vision is how we like to see the forests of
the future and why we think they are important to all Virginians
and our mission describes what we do.
We have included two elements not often found in strategic
plans that outline how we would characterize success: our
Preferred Future for Virginia's Forest Resources
and a Preferred Future for the Department of Forestry.
Neither of these preferred futures is about what will
be done but more about how things should be.
Focusing on these preferred futures, we have established
broad, long-range goals that we hope will lead to
the realization of healthy forest resources for generations
to come. Our objectives, strategies, and business
plan are underway.
We share this because we serve all Virginians and
success can only come through your support and cooperation.
Your welcomed response may be sent to: State
Forester.
Sincerely,
J. W. Garner
